Title: The Woman At The Bar
Author: Ncfan
Fandom: Fifty Shades of Grey/The Silmarillion
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 3144
Warnings: Character Death
Summary: An Elf who personally knows a thing or two about domestic abuse deals with Christian Grey.

Kate Kavanagh meets Tolkien's Aredhel. The Noldo princess knows all about being trapped in a relationship with an abusive, controlling partner- and she won't let other women suffer the same fate. This story was actually written for Gehayi, and I was surprised that it hadn't been posted here already. So here it is:

The Woman At The Bar

(Funnily enough, I often mentally pronounce Eöl's name as "Eel"- the same thing the sporkers here sometimes call E. L. James).

Anyone else watch Criminal Minds? Because I recently got into the fandom and watching it has reminded me of Fifty Shades of Grey on more than one occasion. And not in a good way, if there even is such a thing.

Spoilers for the episodes will be put beneath spoiler cuts.

Fandom(s): Criminal Minds
Title: Season 4 Episode 14, "Cold Comfort"
Rating: R
What it reminded me of: Christian's wangst about his dead mother.
Warnings: Violence, character death, necrophilia, generally disturbing themes.
Summary: The BAU are called to a case where women are being abducted, killed and embalmed, with their bodies being held after death. The culprit is revealed to a man named Roderick Glass. He was pretty much raised by his nanny, who died suddenly while his parents were away. He was left with her body for several days, and would curl up and sleep beside it, draping its arm over himself. When he abducted women, he would force them into the role of his nanny before embalbing them and keeping their corpses to have sex with.

Bonus? It takes place in Washington state.

And if that isn't enough nightmare fuel, have another.

Fandom(s): Criminal Minds
Title: Season 7 Episode 20, "The Company"
Rating: R
What it reminded me of: Christian's bullshit contracts and, generally, how he treats Ana.
Warnings: Domestic violence, abuse, brainwashing, very heavily implied rape over a long time, abduction/imprisonment of children.
Summary: Morgan's sister believes that she sees their presumed-dead cousin, and calls Morgan and the team in to investigate. The sister is alive - she's just been held captive by a man for the last eight years. He's part of a group of men, all of whom are abusive degradations to the name of humanity, who keep women captive by two means. First is threats of 'The Company' and what they will do to the woman and her family should she try to leave; this 'company' is fictitious, but the women don't know that. Secondly, they have children with the women and then keep these children captive as, essentially, hostages for the women's behaviour. Throw in some bullshit contracts, a little bit of non-consensual physical violence, and immediate lawyering up in the face of a domestic abuse charge, and all I could see was Christian Grey.

A slightly less creepy bonus, but the actor who plays the perp in this one is awesome, and nowadays better known for The Walking Dead.

Title: Lions Eat Lambs
Author: Raggdolly
Fandom(s): Twilight/The Most Dangerous Game (implied)
Rating: R or NC-17, depending on how strong your stomach is.
Word Count: ~45,000
Warnings: Vampire violence, strong language, some sensuality.
Summary: "A camping expedition goes awry when Bella's friends disappear. While searching for them, she stumbles upon the manor of Edward Cullen, unaware that she is about to become a pawn in his dangerous game - a game she can't afford to lose. AU/OOC/Vamp & Human/"Darkward"" -- Raggdolly

Note from Reccer: I'm recommending this for those who prefer dangerous/nasty/bloodthirsty vampires, particularly those folks who find Edward's "vigilante" days more believeable than his love for Bella. If you believe Edward is a complete psycho and wished he'd just OWN THAT SHIT, this'll be right up your alley.

Read "Lions Eat Lambs" here.

Title: Masks
Author: light4dawn
Fandom(s): Twilight
Rating: T
Word Count: 8,000
Summary: This is a realistic version of what happens after the happy ending.  What happens after Breaking Dawn? Did Jacob really forget all about his tribe, his pack and his love for Bella because he imprinted on her daughter? Is Renesmee truly the key to Jacob's happiness? Can Jake and Bells really still be friends?

Title: The Anticlimactic Non-Imprintment of Embry Call
Author: Guns_and_Drums
Fandom: Twilight
Word Count: 277K
Rating: R/NC-17
Summary: "I'd accepted the fact that I was going to imprint just like my other brothers had. I'd been pretty much been waiting for it. Then one day, Sam goes and blows my mind: I might not imprint. So, I have to find a girlfriend all by myself? This sucks…"

This is the piece that will attempt to combat many of the major issues I have with Twilight. Nothing is sacred. Mid-BD AU.

Reccer's Notes: I really, really love this story. The tag "imprinting that doesn't erode the foundation of my soul" is awesome enough, and mostly this is an exploration of the ideas of imprinting. It goes from mid-late Breaking Dawn and continues beyond, setting up for the big fight scenes and epic showdowns that everyone was secretly (or not-so-secretly) hoping for. There's plenty of Native American mythology that is genuinely respected and used in an interesting way, not to mention that is has LGB and disabled characters, and an OFC who doesn't make me want to throttle things. Which are always good.

(Also, I'm not tagging for all of the characters because basically everyone makes an appearance. It's about the Wolfpack in general, though, so I'll roll with that.)

Not technically a fic rec, but when I read this I had the feeling that everyone here would appreciate it. It's an article from a site called Listverse, and does exactly what it says on the tin.

10 Terrifying Downsides to Immortality

Anyone who reads a lot of spitefic will also doubtless recognise some of these facets as having been touched on by writers before. But it's an amusing list to ponder whilst thinking of the Cullens, and especially our, ahem, lovely Bella...

Uncertain of how to tag, but I hope this is appropriate enough for this comm.

Because it had to be posted at some point, and it might as well be me.

If you haven't read the Growing Up Cullen LJ-RP series yet, I think now is a good time to come out from under that rock you've been hiding. This series should be required reading for anyone who is anti-Twilight. Ratings-wise, I would consider it PG-13 due to some language and sexual humour.

Part 1: I like how we turned Edward into a 40 year old mother on a bad day.

Part 2: YES, I AM DOING THAT "EMO BULLSHIT," I CAN FEEL IF I WANT TO

Part 3: STOP TWIRLING THE POOL STICKS, THEY ARE NOT TOYS! YOU DON'T GROW BACK EYES, EMMETT.

Part 4: I feel totally validated that Growing Up Cullen is canon thanks to the Midnight Sun leak.

AN: Twilight is one of those series where the best potential out of the character interactions is in those NOT mentioned.

Fanfic rec: Sunlight Through The Night, by Late To The Party

This fic parodies Twilight with a gender-switched Edward and Bella and takes on the religious analogies in the story. Witness a prissy, religious, British human Edward played as a sympathetic character--and a powerful, morally troubling Bella finding some common ground with him.

Author: Late To The Party
Fandom(s): Twilight
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 21K (in progress)
Inspiration: Twilight (first book)
Warnings: About the same as for Twilight itself.
Summary: Jezabella, daughter of Cain and Lilith, has inhabited Faux for centuries. Established by Puritans and Mexican immigrants, Faux is a hovel forgotten by time. A young man, Isaac, from England, returns home after many years abroad. Can his God-fearing ways save not only him, but redeem the town and her before it's too late? AU.

Fanfic: Gate Light

Author: Blueinkedfrost
Fandom(s): Twilight and Baldur's Gate
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 11K (in progress)
Inspiration: Twilight (first book)
Warnings: Explosions, cyborgs, evil therapists, mad scientists, daring young reporters, and homicidal girls' soccer teams.
Summary: It's also a Twilight redux with a gender-switched Edward and Bella. A seventeen-year-old boy with issues meets a sparkling female vampire with a zest for unlife as well as a very surly werewolf. Spite against Twilight is a very inspiring topic.

I discovered this fabulous ficlet tonight in the Fantasy Cafe. It was written by Thea and Ana of The Book Smugglers and, according to the author of Fantasy Cafe, is "about what would happen if Edward Cullen from Twilight was sent to Vegas to undergo some behavior modification treatment under the tutelage of five literary leading men (Rhett Butler, James Bond, Batman, Sirius Black, and Dracula). I’d advise not drinking anything while reading this unless you want to clean up a sprayed liquid mess…". Enjoy!

Title: Blissful Forever
Author: light4dawn
Fandom(s): Twilight
Rating: T
Word Count: 2,126
Warnings:
Summary: Breaking Dawn is over, and Bella can show Edward her thoughts. The first time, Bella exerted a lot of effort to show Edward how much she loved him, but what was it like the second time she let her shield down? What would Edward see if he could read her at will and not just the thoughts she wanted to show him?
Reccer's Notes: This is yet another Bella's Mind is a horrible thing to read fic.  It was rather tragic.  It is currently E/B but supports B/J but Bella didn't see it.

Title: Eighteen
Author: Estora
Word Count: 2,508
Summary: Breaking Dawn spoilers, dark themes, canon-compliant. Renesemee 'Nessie' Cullen has just turned seven. Or eighteen. Or whatever the hell you want to call it.
Characters: Renesemee, Jacob, Claire
Rating: R, for sexual themes
Genre: Drama/Family
Notes: This is a beautiful fanfiction that portrayes Renesemee as a much stronger female then her mother ever was. It shows the reality of what Renesemee's future will be if she doesn't do something quickly.

Title: It's Mine Now
Author: X5-452
Word Count: 2,255
Summary: Twenty years after Breaking Dawn. Leah gets some unexpected and unwanted visitor's one night. But this is her life now.
Characters: Leah, Jacob, Embry, Bella, Edward, and Charlie
Genre: Famly/Drama
Notes: This is an wonderful take on how much Bella missed when she became a vampire.  There's this very sad scene that really highlighted it.

Title: Contractual Obligations
Author: Chaotic Neutral
Fandom: Twilight
Word Count: 5935
Characters: Bella Swan, other male
Summary: Some feel that things ended just a little too perfectly. Almost as though it had all been planned. Meet the puppet master.

This is a little gem I found just today in the Twilight Sucks v.3 boards. I assure you that Chaotic Neutral got karma for it from me.

Title: You Could be Good For Me
Author: The 13th Fairie
Fandom: Twilight
Rating: T
Characters: Bella, Edward, Charlie and Jacob
Summary: After they return from Italy, Bella doubts Edward's love. What will she do?

This is one of those 'Bella realizes what a jerk Edward really is' fics.  It's pretty good and had Bella pointing out why Edward doesn't really love her.  She was honest with herself and look in herself.  I enjoyed that.

Title: Pieces of the Memories
Author: [livejournal.com profile] audreyii_fic
Fandom: Twilight
Rating: T
Characters: Swan Family, Black Family, Clearwater Family
Genre: Humor/Angst/Friendship
Warnings: Occasional language.

Summary: Renee leaves Charlie and Bella. AU drabble series.

You know how Twilight had zero character development with Bella and we only knew things about her because we were told them? This fixes that problem. Not only does it develop Bella, but it does the same with Charlie, the Clearwaters, the Blacks, and their relationships together. I don't recommend fic very often, but in this case... It's nicely done and I think y'all might enjoy it.

Story: Loose Canon: Following Too Closely by The Sound and The Fury
Timeline: Eclipse
Summary: What if Bella had called Edward on his behavior when he tailed her home from La Push? What might have happened if she actually stood up for herself? Bella/Edward the way it should have been.
Word Count: 9,606
Genre: Hurt Comfort/Romance
Reccer's comments: This is an interesting take on the scene involving Edward treating Bella like a possession.  The characters developed and the relationship take on a deeper meaning.

Story: The Day after Breaking Dawn by friendofbread
Summary: Edward can read Bella's mind.
Word Count: 475
Genre: Angst/Horror (Humor)
Reccer's comments: It is hilarious.  Bella's thoughts match the ones in the Twilight Books much to Edwards agony.  All she could think about was how beautiful Edward is and it annoys him.  For some reason, it's under Angst/Horror but it felt more like humor to me.

Always and Forever by Dargon-Nix

Summary: Bella is at last going to become a Vampire just as she always desired. Things take an unexpected turn for the worst however...
Word Count: 1,139
Genre: Horror/Angst

Reccer's comments: This is an Alternate reality and it shows how dangerous it could be to trust a vampire.

Mary Sue by AngelinPink1

Summary: What if all the characters in twilight lived in a normal world? Would Bella's life be any different? This anti-Bella fan fiction takes the readers on the story of Twilight and Bella and Edward's romance as it should be.
Word Count: 8,861
Genre: Humor/Romance

Reccer's comments: It's pretty funny and put a 'real world' spin on it.  Although, Bella is a bit ditsy in this.
