Title: No Response
Author: [livejournal.com profile] winki_pop
Fandom(s): Twilight
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 1,024
Inspiration: The Vegas Aside Gehayi sporked from the Twilight out-takes
Warnings: A few swears, Edward’s violent temper implying violence.
Summary: A huge reality check for the stupid threesome when what really happens when Charlie finds out his daughter is no longer in Phoenix…
(It's canon-based, but Meyer's characters are so bloody rigid and not all the details were clear in this aside, but I tried my best :D)

Author's Note: I know I usually write crack fics, but I just felt compelled to write a drama fic after reading Gehay's sporking of the Vegas Aside where she made a lot of great points. Thanks, Gehayi! :D

They were now driving along the freeway outside of Vegas having lived it up in the casino for the past 4 hours, Edward and Alice having won and lost money in the thousands. The puzzled and suspicious looks on some of the dealers’ face and the man at the front signalled that a quick exit was necessary. Alice explained she didn’t see anything happening to them as they left.

Bella was blissfully unaware that Charlie nearly had an aneurysm once he learned that his daughter had been discharged without his knowledge from hospital back in Phoenix of whilst tasting a bit of the high life with Alice and Edward at the casino. Charlie hadn’t been on her mind for what felt like days, weeks, months, even when he had come down from Forks to check up on her. Bella would tune out his concerns and talk of home, too busy concentrating on Edward’s Adonis-esque features as he took what had been his place next to Bella’s beside for the past few weeks to pay attention to his rambling on. Ever since Edward entered the picture no one else mattered anyway. How could they next to such a charming, cultured and angelic figure?

However, Charlie was soon going to matter in the situation once Edward and Alice noticed the 50 or so squad cars that were now tailing Edward’s silver Volvo as they entered the desert terrain of the highway…

Bella noticed the narrow eyes on both Edward and Alice in the rear mirrors and turned to look out the back window. She was agog.

‘No… he didn’t…He couldn’t have?’ Chief Swan actually alerted the Las Vegas Police Force on her?"

Bella began shaking, taking off her seatbelt and lifting herself out of her seat and grabbing onto Alice’s in the passenger seat.

“Alice!” she demanded, her voice quivering. “Alice, what’s going on, why didn’t you see this happening?!”

Alice had her mouth open, but the words just weren’t coming out. She never got the chance to answer once Edward began snarling, his hands tightening around the steering wheel.

“That damned police chief,” he spat. “I swear to God, I’ll kill him! As soon as I see him again…”

“But we only left Phoenix a little bit earlier than expected!” Bella cried. “We were going home anyway, why would Charlie do this to me?!”

The squad cars were coming closer and closer to the silver Volvo and the Las Vegas chief of Police stuck his head out of the car in front, holding a loudspeaker.

“Please pull over your vehicle,” he yelled over the horizon. “Slow down and pull over your vehicle!”

Bella looked out the back window nervously, shocked at the sight. She tried to cling tightly onto the thought that Edward and Alice would be able to stand a chance against all those humans and defend her. She would bet her life on it.

“Edward, just slow down, you and Alice can fight them off, there’s nothing to be afraid of!” Bella pleaded, “You can do it!”

But Edward ignored her, instead pressing down hard on the accelerator, changing gears with a crunch. His eyes narrowed and he ground his teeth together.

“Edward, what are you doing?” Bella choked out. “Slow down, you’ll kill us, you’ll kill me!”

“Sit down and shut up,”  he spat at her violently, looking straight ahead. “You are not going back there, not with him. You stay with us!”

“Edward, what are you talking about?” Bella was confused and frightened. “Charlie’s expecting me…”

Edward turned to her and let the vitriol fly at his supposed beloved. “Charlie is going to pay when I find him, he's not getting you back! I have to protect you! He doesn't get it!" He was rambling now. "No one gets it! He can't stop me!"

Bella cowered in the back seat with her hands over her ears. “Edward, stop!” she wailed. “Alice, make him stop, make him slow down!”

But Alice didn’t dare argue against her brother as he soon turned on her, too.

“Alice, so help me God if you say anything now, I am opening the door and kicking you out of this car myself!” he screamed, his voice reverberating inside the car.

Edward was now clocking in at about 220kms an hour on the rough desert road, Bella felling every bump they drove over, Bella clinging desperately to the handle above her seat, swinging from side to side. Tears began falling and she tried to stifle the sobs heaving in her chest.

“Edward, stop…” she pleaded, wheezing, “just stop, I love you…”

Edward snarled once more. “Stop crying!” he screamed, his voice rough and ragged, nothing like his usual honey-soaked voice. “Just stop crying! You’re not going back to him, you’re fucking not!”

But it was all in vain. Police cars soon came up the opposite side of the highway, cutting off the silver Volvo as it skidded to a violent halt, jerking everyone forward, Bella slamming back into her seat. Police were already hopping out and advancing on the car, at least 30 or 40 officers. Two men swung open both Alice and Edward’s doors and ripped them out of their seats, more policemen joining in as they restrained both Edward and Alice with extreme force. Some held long silver blades in their hands… This was a fight neither of the Cullens would win.

Meanwhile, two female officers met Bella at her door and opened it slowly, already pulling her out of her seat.

“Isabella Marie Swan, please come with us,” said the young blonde, her voice stern.”

“No! No, I will not!” Bella tried to fight against the force, but the officers simply tightened their hold on her, almost dragging Bella.

“You need to come with us, Miss Swan,” yelled the other officer, an African-American woman. “Do not try to resist, your father is expecting you back in Forks immediately.”

“But, Edward! Alice!”

“Miss Swan, let us take you home!”

Bella tried to turn around and find Alice and Edward, especially Edward. But all she could see were police officers swarming all over the silver Volvo, Edward and Alice barely able to hold them all off, betraying the strength they always told her they possessed. Bella was wide-eyed and desperately, her tears falling even faster now.

“Edward!” she screamed out as she was led away from the scene and into a waiting police car. “Edward!”

There was no response.

Ooooh, I like this. Of course it would shock the vampires that a human would dare to tell them "no," and of course Bella would be shocked that Edward is not the nice guy that she has convinced herself that he is. I especially like the fact that the vampires aren't as physically strong as they claim to be, and that all the cops can overwhelm them.

Amazing! Like [livejournal.com profile] hyperactivator said, the exposure of their BSing the "pathetic little human" is absolutely brilliant, as well as Bella finding out Eddiekins isn't such a nice guy after all.
