Author: LittleCaity/sinestris
Fandom(s): The Twilight 'Saga', Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha (Both Soulless Army and King Abbandon)
Rating: PG
Word Count: 8,769 + Notes
Inspiration: The uncanny resemblance between the powers of the Cullens and the Investigative Powers of Skill and Pagan demons in the Raidou Kuzunoha games
Warnings: Violence, a couple of curses, a rampant OC, time travel and a mad scientist, sodding long
Summary: A pair of Devil Summoners come to Forks. Their mission: destroy the Cullens and save Bella.
Disclaimers: I don't own Twilight, I own copies of Raidou but it ain't my intellectual property (otherwise Narumi/Raidou would be canon), Carmel is the only thing I own here and I'll fight to the death to keep her.
“So, your dad, huh?” Narumi asked as they sat in the Swan’s kitchen and drank coffee while they waited to see if Bella was going to be sane when she woke. The detective had lit a cigarette only to have it stolen and smoked away in minutes by Charlie, and without a word he’d handed over the entire pack. The room smelled of coffee and sugar and smoke. It was actually a rather relaxing scent after the previous night.
“He adopted me when I was twelve. He just walked past, stern as anything, and I ran up. I asked if I could pet his tiger. I’ve never seen anyone laugh so much.” She chuckled, still a little raspy from the bruises Alice had left around her neck. “He’s been good to me.”
“Good, because I’d have to shoot him for being mean to a nice dame if he hadn’t.” They both laughed softly, ignoring the way Gouto sneezed to cover his snigger.
Raidou looked up suddenly, almost as if he could see through the ceiling to the room upstairs where Bella was sleeping. Mike had brought her home half-insensible the night before, and had been terrified until Charlie had clapped him on the shoulder and thanked him with a bright smile.
“She’s awake,” he said, blinking once. “And not screaming.”
Charlie burst through the back door and shot through the room like a whippet, disappearing upstairs almost too quickly to be seen. A couple of minutes later he was back, Bella holding onto his arm and looking a little dazed but blissfully, gloriously awake and most importantly aware.
“Hey,” she said, raising a hand in greeting, and Bella smiled shyly.
Yeah, they’d done good.

The circles stood out stark on the basement floor. The room still smelled faintly from the last ritual, but they couldn’t afford to put this off. As interesting as it had been working with Raidou and Narumi (and even Gouto, when the cat could be convinced to stop snarking every few seconds), it was time to send them back.
“It’s been an honour,” she said to Raidou, shaking his hand before crouching to run a light hand over Gouto-douji’s head. “You were all amazing.”
Narumi took her hand and kissed the back of it, grinning up at her before stepping back into the circle. “It was fun,” he said.
She stepped back into her own circle and the words took over. Soon the magic bubbled up and engulfed the trio, boy and man and cat, and when it subsided they had gone.

“Bella should not be this cheerful,” Lauren groaned, head on the table and cursing as the erstwhile Miss Swan started chattering on in response to another question from the teacher. “Or this smart. I thought she was on some kind of drugs?”
“There are some kick-ass new treatments. And some sweeeeet painkillers.” She grinned a little wonkily, absently touching the scarf covering the bruises Alice’s killing hold had left. They would likely heal slow, and she’d insisted on one last day in the school to say goodbye. Lauren had been amazing, and Angela and Mike had been pretty awesome too.
“So which Cullen got you?” Lauren asked, and she almost fell off her chair in shock. “Give me some credit, Carmel. You couldn’t have known to keep Bella away that night unless you were more involved than you were saying. Plus there were all those bizarre phone calls... Who says hello by screaming your surname, anyway?”
“Ah, that would be Victor. Mad scientist. Literally.” They shared a grin and went back to watching Bella dazzle the teacher.

Notes:
Wow. That got way, way, WAY out of hand. I sat down to hammer out a shortfic of Eddy getting whupped by Raidou, three days later I was finishing up this thing at 2am.
If you'd like to know more about the Riadou Kuzunoha games, let me know and I'll deposit links to the LPs that made me go out and track down copies. They capture the fun feel of the games without going too much into the mechanics.
My reasoning for this fic is simple. Almost all the Cullen Powahs (or at least the ones we actually know much about) are reflected by demon Investigative Skills. Mind Reading? Pagan demon. Emotion Manipulation? Pyro and Frost demons to inspire and calm. See the future? There's a demon called Kudan who turns up in both games with the express purpose of telling Raidou just how doomed he is if he screws up.
I hope you all enjoyed my brief excursion into sheer insanity. And that you'll forgive me for having to split it up into so many parts.
Happy New Year, everyone!

Date: 2012-01-01 09:31 am (UTC)As for the LPs:
http://lparchive.org/Shin-Megami-Tensei-Devil-Summoner-Raidou-Kuzunoha-vs-the-Soulless-Army/ <--- This one first
http://lparchive.org/Shin-Megami-Tensei-Devil-Summoner-2/ <--- Then this one.
I personally think Soulless Army has the best pacing, but King Abbadon has a stronger antagonist. They're both fun though.

Date: 2012-01-01 10:19 am (UTC)As for writing, well... It's not in the Twi-verse any more, or the Devil-Summoner-verse, but Carmel's adventures have only just begun. :D
