All right! We have a nice, big tag list to help keep the stories featured here organized for easy viewing. We’d appreciate it if you do your part and use them. Here they all are, with an explanation as to how to use them.

Length: The length tag is pretty self-explanatory. However many words your fic is, you use the appropriate-length tag. If you are doing a multi-chapter fic, don’t tag word counts per chapter, please tag total word count.

Book: We have a tag for every book in the Twilight series. Whichever book your spitefic is set in, please use that tag or tags. If your spitefic is just for the general Twilight series or is set before the first book, Twilight, or after the final book, Breaking Dawn, use the “twilight series general” tag.

Character: We have compiled a general list of all the main characters in Twilight. If you are using a minor character, just use “other male” or “other female”. For every character featured prominently in your story, please use the appropriate tags. For minor characters, if at least five spitefics are eventually written for a character, you may request a tag for that character. If we accidentally missed a main character, please tell us.

Genre: Right now we don’t have very many of these, but they are important to use because some people prefer comedic spitefics while others prefer serious ones. Label appropriately so people can choose whether to laugh or cry or shudder in horror—or just sit back and let another canon invade and take out the lesser one.

Rating: Self-explanatory. Rate your fics appropriately; don’t rate a fic PG that is filled with language and violence, and don’t rate a fic NC-17 that doesn’t even feature a nipple. Common sense in that regard.

Warning: These are if your fics deal with sensitive topics. They are as follows:

Suicide/Suicidal Ideation

Spitefic Type: These are very important—while all spitefics are, by their very natures, AUs, they are not all the same style/type of spite. Some people prefer particular kinds of spite, and these tags will help you and other readers browse easily. They are as follows:

Canon Twisting: Sometimes, a simple tweak here and there can make things either a whole lot funnier or a whole lot scarier. Canon Twisting is when virtually everything that Meyer wrote remains the same, except a few things are changed for the purpose of exploring a particular point. Maybe you make the Cullens hideous monsters who use glamours to look beautiful. Maybe you gender-bend (or species-bend) Bella and Edward. Basically, Canon Twisting is an Twilight-verse AU within your own spitefic AU. (Example: The Price of Illusion)

Death from Above: Alucard coming in and devouring all of the Cullens, Castiel descending from Heaven and spreading his wings and incinerating Bella and Edward—we do like sweet revenge, so when a character is killed in a dramatic and spiteful way, use this tag. (Example: Dies Irae)

How It Should Have Gone: It’s pretty self-explanatory. Nobody in the Twilight series has a realistic reaction to anything, so when you write a fic that suddenly has Bella waking up and realizing that Edward Cullen is an abusive dick or Edward comes to the conclusion that Bella is just basically using him to get to vampirism and doesn’t love him at all, use this tag. (Example: Fallen Angel)

Logical Extreme: These fics can either be very funny or very unpleasant. They are similar to Reality Enemas, except these aren’t merely applying reality—you are taking some particular point of Meyer’s canon that is dismissed as harmless or acceptable and running with it, thereby showing exactly what will happen eventually if things continue this way. (Example: Kiri, Kiri)

POV Switch: What was a scene like from somebody else’s POV? Meyer and Bella may not be able to comprehend that notion, but we’re certainly not. These are for when you look at a scene in Meyer’s canon, write it exactly how it went in canon, but through the eyes of another character. (Example: Long Distance)

Reality Enema: Reality does not exist in Twilight canon, so that’s exactly what it says on the box—you are forcing Meyer’s canon to take it right up the ass, cramming logic, rules, laws, and reality right back into the story and showing just what would happen if the real world dictated the rules of the Twilight universe. (Example: Hospital Rules)

Rewrite: Obvious—this is where you take Meyer’s canon and try to exploit the wasted potential of a given point by rewriting it into something that is awesome and believable. (Example: Blindsight)

Self-Insert: Simple and satisfactory, Self-Insert spitefics are basically you or one of your own characters stomping into canon and telling everyone off. (Example: Reality Bitchslap)

Take That: A “Take That” spitefic is basically just finding some way sticking it to canon. It is the author finding some way to give the canon characters exactly what the deserve, often involving sound defeat and humiliation, and the utter ruination of all of the characters you hate. (Example: A Story of More Woe)
