Summary: Reality enema 10 years after Bella was turned into a vampire and what happens when the horrible truth begins to dawn on her. Granted, Bella, too set in her ways, proceeds to act the only way she knows best…

Author's Note: This was an idea I thought of a while back while joking with a friend, but now am expanding on it. Think about it, if this situation really did happen to Bella, how else would the little sycophant react?

Edward had been out hunting all day. He never usually spent so long out of Bella’s sight, always so eager to get back home to her to ensure she her safety, despite the fact that she had longed forgotten her humanity 10 years prior, now a vampire who would never have to live in fear of anything ever again.

He never elaborated just where he exactly hunted. He didn’t think Bella should ever consume herself with thoughts regarding his business, feeling he should never have to justify himself to her. After everything he had ever given her, Edward usually argued, could she at least allow him to do what had to be done?

Bella tried to busy herself with her usual daily activities around the Cullen manor: shopping online, trying on the many array of clothes Alice picked out for her and acting as her personal mannequin, embroidery with Esme and so on. Being a vampire didn’t allow you the opportunity to go out often, trying to remain as undetected as possible within a small community such as Forks. Bella would never admit to it, but the boredom within such splendour was sometimes more than mind-numbing, so monotonous and striving to do more with herself. Weren’t vampires supposed to be all-powerful, all-knowing and be able to do as they pleased with no consequences affecting them?

Bella stepped away from the lounge window where she had been standing for the past hour waiting for Edward to return. Why was he being so distant towards her, so hostile and no longer wondering what was going through her mind like she was with his? Ever since she had become a vampire, Bella had feared Edward would suddenly lose interest in her now that her curious human quirks and peculiarities no longer existed, especially that of her more-than potent scent for a time used to drive Edward almost to kill. Now, he never seemed to wonder about her anymore.

If Bella could breathe, she would be clutching at her chest right about now, hyperventilating like she once used to do when she worried about Edward would she be without him too long. She had to find out where he was, where he was going for long stretches each and every day before the madness killed her. She couldn’t be away from Edward for another minute longer.

Bella immediately raced out of the house without a care, leaving a sleeping Renesmee in the other room. She knew Rosalie would eventually tend to her if she needed, as Rosalie was always eager to do anyway.

Bella didn’t waste another minute thinking of anything else as she made her way over the hills, following Edward’s footsteps wherever they would lead.

***************************************

Bella had traced Edward’s steps all the way across the other side of Forks, nowhere near where he and his brothers usually hunted.

As she crept further through the vast, green rainforest, its eeriness almost enveloping over Bella uncomfortably, unable to shake off the feeling, she strangely found herself walking towards Forks High, a place she had barely thought about in the past decade, just another part of her humanity that never mattered nor found any reason for in the first place

She didn’t need to walk too far onto the school grounds, her more-than heightened senses as a vampire making up for weak human eyesight from afar. She could see and even smell the students who walked across the grounds to get to class, chatting with their friends, all unsuspecting humans going about their ordinary small-town lives, uneventful and routine.

And that’s when Bella spotted Edward in the school’s car park, dragging along behind him a small, smiling young girl. She was blonde, perky, so youthful and spry as she looked up at Edward with adoring eyes. She wore her hair loose and wavy; her eyes a deep blue and wearing a pink halter dress with black ballet flats, a purple bag slung around her shoulder with a couple of Hello Kitty pins on the strap**

Edward had always insisted he preferred brunettes.

If Bella could still feel her heart beating, it would be shattering into a million pieces right about now. Why hadn’t he mentioned none of this to her?

Edward had always been so curious about every little thought process Bella had, yet she had no idea about his own ideas, his own She could never demand his thoughts from him like he had always from her.

Bella continued to watch on from the heavy shrubbery of the forest, watching as Edward and the girl stood face to face with one another, the girl smiling up at him as he ran a finger down from her cheek to her jaw. Bella listened intently as the girl told Edward that she could make her own way home from here, that she had work to do.

But Edward demanded he drive her home. The girl continued to protest, and just as she turned to leave him, Edward roughly gripped her shoulder, forcing the girl back around to face him. His eyes narrowed down at her, speaking low as he insisted that she get in his silver Volvo right now, she, cowering just a little, eventually follow through with his demand as she got into the passenger side, defeated. Soon, the two drove out of the car park and down the main highway.

Bella soon collapsed to her knees. Her angel, her Adonis, her own personal miracle, had found another, more interesting human curiosity to replace her with, the role she had once played when she had first arrived in Forks. After all she had given up for Edward, to forego her humanity, to strive to become even a tenth of his equal and plead to join his family forever more and he does this to her?!

No…no, this had to be some sort of mistake. Bella totally wasn’t convinced that Edward meant any harm, that he would actually do anything to hurt her like this. There had to be a legitimate reason for this, there just had to be. Edward loved her, he pledged eternity to her! There had to be a proper explanation for this and Bella was going to get to the bottom of it all. Edward would never lie to her…

Bella started traipsing away from the school and back through the rainforest. It had to be that… that girl, that human girl. She must have done something to tempt Edward away from her, she must have lured Edward with her stupid schoolgirl wiles and flirtatious ways, brushing away her blonde hair and letting her delightful floral scent blow in his direction, making him follow her all the way to attending Forks High as apart of some elaborate plan to trap him, probably jumping from one guy to the next like some of the whores she knew when she went to Forks High, shuddering at the memory of her former human life.

Bella grasped on to any comfortable thought that she could, anything that she could use to help see this situation through. She had convinced herself that Edward was indeed the victim in all this, that he was led on, that he was just looking for a challenge, preying upon her until the time was right. She was no one and nothing anyway, why did he care so much?!

But an ominous feeling still hung over Bella like a dark cloud. She couldn’t deny what she had seen. She had to make Edward tell her the truth, of course he would tell her, he always did. She was the problem in all this. She, that little blonde harpie, would have to be dealt with accordingly, no longer distracting poor Edward, no longer getting in his way…

Bella soon headed towards home.

***************************************

Her whole life had been a lie. What was meant to be a glorious rebirth for Bella Swan, to finally achieve the ultimate dream to become beautiful, powerful and feared by many, to outlive even mere humanity itself, was now becoming her own inescapable nightmare.

Edward did not return home until the next morning, a bright and sunny day. He didn’t say a word as read a first edition Wuthering Heights, given to him from Bella a few years ago, sitting stiffly in the leather-bound chair as he appeared rather uninterested as he flipped from page to page.

“So… where have you been?” Bella began, rather meekly, finding Edward alone in the library of the Cullen household while Rosalie tended to Renesmee at the other end of the house.

Edward didn’t answer as he continued reading to himself.

“I wondered where you were yesterday; you were out hunting for so long…”

“Well, I was out hunting, as I said,” Edward replied dismissively, not taking his eyes off the page. “I don’t see why that would warrant a further explanation.”

“It’s just that you never even came home last night and…”

“I don’t see why you should have to worry, I told you where I was,” Edward spoke more sharply this time.

Bella bit her lip nervously. She hated to disturb Edward when she sensed he was in one of his moods. She reminded herself to tread carefully, to not anger him too much as to send him off on one of his murderous rages, to drive him even further away from her. Bella had never been able to cope in the past whenever Edward had disappeared, the thought of it even too much to bear.

“Edward… do I still… you know… do I still appeal to you, even as a vampire?” Bella asked, almost in a whisper. “I know that you loved me as a human, but I wonder sometimes if even as a vampire am I still as intriguing to you. Am I still… beautiful, at least?”

Edward huffed as he dropped the book in his lap, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Bella, do you know how much that utterly infuriates me so?” he said through gritted teeth. “That you would even dare question how much I care for you, love you, need you! How could you ever doubt me like this?!”

“I – I’m sorry,” Bella stuttered, taking a small step away from him. “I’m sorry that I ever thought such a thing, I just…”

“Bella, I can read your mind now, you know,” Edward reminded, smirking at her as he got out of the leather-bound chair towards her. “I know every little thought you are thinking, every little doubt and concern you have… And what is it that I always say when you begin thinking things that you shouldn’t be?”

Bella hung her head sheepishly. “That there is no need to concern myself with unnecessary thoughts because it may lead my mind to wander where it shouldn’t.”

“Of course,” Edward replied, stroking a finger from Bella’s cheek to her jaw. The smile remained on his face, triumphant. “I now know every little thought of yours, Bella, my love. It was your choice to become this way, after all, to choose this life.”

Edward then headed for the oak wood double doors of the library. “I’ll be out for a while,” he spoke casually.

And without a further word he quickly disappeared for the shelter of the Forks rainforest… and beyond.

“I love you, Edward…” Bella whispered after him.

She waited until she was far enough out of Edward’s vicinity, as far away from everyone as she possibly could. She would be paying a visit to a certain blonde tomorrow morning once Edward had left her side. She would remind her just who Edward’s eternal love was meant to be, not doe-eyed high school cheerleader going gaga over the most popular guy in school. She would show the blonde that there really was other, more intensive and fearsome forces in this world to be dealt with.

She would do it for Edward. Bella was, after all, powerful and beautiful, and how else would that little blonde be able to compete against that?

Bella would ensure to keep her fairytale on the rails, by all means necessary…

**For the record, I love Hello Kitty, and I have a Hello Kitty pin on one of my favourite handbags, too, so that wasn’t a little dig at anyone or stereotyping. I have much respect for the Hello Kitty fans :P
