Author: Me
Inspiration: Shopping with Alice aside
Word Count: 357
Rating: PG
Summary: Nameless guy stops this fantasy in its tracks...
Now properly burdened with enough clothes to last a fortnight, Alice lead me to the cashier to check out. The guy behind the counter had one eyebrow raised when he saw the ball of expensive clothing shoved his way, and the other quickly joined it when he saw our faces. It crossed my mind that it was a bit odd to see a guy who looked like he belonged in a sports shop instead of working at this kind of fashion boutique.
“And how will you ladies be paying this evening?”
I was a bit perturbed that he did not even register the total before asking for payment. Alice gave a bit of a huff and flashed out her unique credit card. The cashier grabbed hold of it and inspected it closely.
“Well, Ms. Lee, could you please show me your driver’s license?”
“Excuse me?” Alice’s incredulity threatened to mar her angelic face.
“I’m sorry, but this store has a policy of not being accessory to credit card fraud.” He stared flatly at the pair of us, “We don’t want to deal with outraged parents who let their kids get away with their credit cards and go on a splurge.”
Alice smiled one of her blinding smiles and gave a regal titter, “Surely, we don’t need to go through all that.” She dipped a bit in a practiced, seductive, and dazzling manner.
“Please, I am neither a pedophile nor an unethical employee. And I don’t need to tell you how many kids we see here who have been 'perfected' by their parents with plastic surgery. I suggest you girls go get a job before you act so cavalierly.”
“I earned this money by my stock investment advice.” Alice said with a look of malice.
“Wow, you made money on stocks. Such a hard worker,” the cashier replied with a bored tone. “If this is legitimately yours, please provide identification. And please,” he added eyeing Alice’s increasingly murderous glare, “don’t make me call security to handle a spoiled brat.”
Alice stared at the man, but even I could tell the man wasn’t budging. “Come on Bella, let’s go.”
