Inspiration: Ch. 19-After Alice calls Jasper to tell him she and Bella are going to Rome
Summary: The Volturi were never going to kill them. Alice needs to stop making everything sound so dramatic.

Jasper hung up the phone, his conversation with Alice swirling around his mind. She had assured him that if things were going south, she would get out alive. He knew that was the truth, despite how dramatic Alice tried to make it sound. The Volturi wouldn’t needlessly kill Edward, for a few reasons.

One, Aro was friends with Carlisle and he knew that killing Edward would upset Carlisle.

Two, Aro valued Edward’s gift and would see it as a terrible waste to kill him.

Finally, out of the three main vampires in the Volturi, only Aro would have the patience to hear Edward’s suicide plea; the other two would simply have the guard restrain him until Carlisle could get to Volterra and talk Edward down.

It seemed like such a huge worry over nothing to Jasper and he was considering calling Alice back and telling her not to bother going to Italy, as there was little chance that Edward would actually die. However, she had Bella with her, and if anyone was prone to dramatics, it was Bella Swan. She would raise a huge fuss over supposedly abandoning Edward and would insist on going to the Volturi, no matter what.

Jasper snorted. Maybe the Volturi would do them a favor and just kill her. She was starting to get on his nerves and he hadn’t even been around her for months.

He could sense her emotions after he almost attacked her; he had thought focusing on her emotions would help him calm down from the bloodlust. Instead, they just infuriated him. She wasn’t upset or scared or shocked or even angry. She didn’t feel anything after almost being killed by her boyfriend’s brother. And when she was talking to Carlisle, she only felt frustration at not being able to understand why Edward didn’t want to condemn her soul, like he thought his own was. If she loved him as much as she said she did, shouldn’t she have known this before, without Carlisle spelling it out for her?

And now, she (and Edward) were dragging Alice into this ridiculous soap opera. Admittedly, Alice wasn’t without fault.

Jasper loved her, but Alice was a little crazy when it came to her power.

She hated to be wrong or have her visions not come true. She saw Edward about to kill himself, so Edward was going to kill himself. The only reason she was going to try and prevent this vision was because she actually cared about Edward, unlike most of the other Cullen ‘children’ who were tired of his whining and douchebag behavior. She never considered the fact that he might change his mind or that the Volturi might step in before he went out into the sunlight. She just concentrated on the visions that showed Edward about to commit suicide and didn’t pay attention to the others.

Emmett interrupted his thoughts, loudly. “What are you thinking so hard about, bro?”

Jasper sighed, before turning to face Emmett. “Edward is going to go make a suicide plea to the Volturi and Alice and Bella have just got on a flight to Rome to stop him.”

He watched Emmett struggle for a minute, before bursting out in loud, room-shaking laughs. If vampires could generate them, tears would be streaming from Emmett’s eyes.

“Oh, man. That is hilarious. Edward is really going to go all Romeo on the Volturi? I hope they kick his ass, just for that. And why the hell is Alice taking Bella with her? Is there something about your wife that you want to tell me Jasper? Has she been having thoughts about Rose, too?”

Jasper just rolled his eyes at Emmett, not even bothering to respond to the jab. “It’s funny, yes, but what if the Volturi kill Bella for knowing our secret? You know that’s the one rule we have.”

Emmett finally stood up straight from where he had been bent over laughing, still chuckling. “Why is Alice even taking Bella to Rome? She knows that rule as well as we do. Besides, if Eddy’s this stupid over just thinking Bella’s dead, imagine how he’ll react if he sees her killed right in front of him. And none of us want to deal with his dramatic, oh-woe-is-me act again.”

Jasper sighed again. “Maybe...maybe she hopes the Volturi will turn Bella instead of killing her.”

Emmett raised an eyebrow. “Why would Alice want that?”

“She doesn’t like to be wrong in her visions. She had a vision of Bella as a vampire, so she wants Bella to be a vampire. Since Edward’s against it and Carlisle won’t do it for fear of upsetting Edward and since the rest of us don’t care enough to do it, maybe she’s hoping the Volturi will do it for her.”

Emmett gave Jasper a look. “Your wife’s a little messed up, you know that right?”

The look Jasper gave him in return said it all.

Emmett shrugged. “So what do you want to do about it?”

Jasper looked down, thinking. There was no way Alice would listen to him if he told her to turn around and come back. Besides, even she couldn’t turn a plane around in mid-air. She had said running would take too long, but that was only because she would have to carry Bella and a human couldn’t handle it when a vampire was going their maximum speed. But, he and Emmett didn’t have to worry about Bella...

If they could get there before Alice and just explain things to the Volturi, they would definitely let Emmett and him take Edward away from the city. Then, they could meet up with Alice and Bella in a secluded place, away from humans, so that his idiot brother could see that his idiot girlfriend was still alive.
